Salvation Army Shield The Salvation Army

Founders' Day 2014

17th June 2014

On 2 July 1865, in poverty-stricken east London, William Booth began what would later become The Salvation Army. The international church and charity now serves in 126 countries worldwide, meeting human needs in Jesus' name without discrimination.

International Headquarters asks you to mark 149 years of faithful service by sharing a photo of you wearing your national dress or Salvation Army uniform - a picture of our global reach and cultural diversity. Tweet the photo any time on 2 July, using the hashtag #SAFoundersDay. Or you can share your picture on the Founders' Day 2014 page during the day itself.

Officers and employees at International Headquarters will be doing likewise, raising funds for the Mind The Gap sponsorship programme to ensure that the 150th anniversary Congress next year can be truly representative of our worldwide demographic. We invite you to support this initiative in whatever way you can.

Also, please support the Thunderclap campaign to raise awareness of the international Salvation Army on social media. If you've not joined a Thunderclap before, it's easy - just visit the page and click on the Twitter/Facebook/Tumblr icons. We need YOU to help share our message. Please encourage your friends, family and colleagues to take part.
